Artist Introduction

Deborah Moore is an Artist, Illustrator, Entrepreneur, Wellness Consultant and Psychic Medium based in Wollongong, NSW. Deborah initially started completing commission works at the age of 16, focussing primarily on portrait paintings in oils. Over the past few decades, Deborah has explored a multitude of mediums and been involved in local collaborative exhibitions, including at Studio 19 and Art Arena. She also held a solo exhibition in 2005 before shifting her focus more towards illustration work. Deborah has made a recent connection to a digitised format using the Procreate app, which has been particularly useful for completing her oracle card and children’s book illustrations. She enjoys this contemporary method, as it allows her to continue to express hand-drawn artworks, but in a more flexible way. Although exploring on the digital playground, Deborah’s artmaking practices remain firmly embedded in organic roots, with her primary method of creating being the gel plate. This versatile tool allows for expression through mixed media printmaking.

In recent years, Deborah has embraced opportunities to illustrate children’s books, including two that she has authored and self-published. In 2021, she had the privilege of illustrating Max & Abby for the Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA) who are dedicated to improving the lives and well-being of patients & families affected by Batten Disease and other types of Childhood Dementia. The opportunity arose when Deborah was working as a Dementia Consultant and was involved in a Childhood Dementia Project at the time. She has since moved on to her own studio and healing practice.

Deborah has a Diploma in Forensic Healing and Reiki qualifications which was part of the foundation of creating her own healing modality. As an Evolving Soul Healing practitioner, she is passionate about supporting others to release limiting beliefs and get in touch with their sacred selves so they may fully embrace positive life choices in a more empowered state. Thematically, her art is now governed towards exploring the connection between beliefs, emotions and thoughts and subtle energies of the body, with an emphasis on the 7-main energy centres (also known as Chakras). As a translatory tool to her healing practice, Deborah created her own concept oracle deck, Companion Cards for the Evolving Soul, consisting of 44 artworks.

Deborah’s studio is located at The Reading Room in Wollongong where she shares a space with her daughter, Jesse. Deborah utilises the back room to conduct Energy Healings and Psychic Readings alongside illustration work. Deborah also enjoys creating bespoke pieces that include sea glass pendulums and selenite wands that are made available at Jesse’s boutique crystal store in the front room. Canvas prints of Deborah’s work are currently displayed at the premises.

Artist thoughts on the theme In Rhythm

When exploring rhythms, the word ‘surrender’ is intuited offering gradations of insight. We surrender ourselves to belief, to action, to forces in conscious context. With the inculcation of surrender, we see the eventuating of tandem ascent, momentum, and speed. Surrender is emergent, breathtaking and a steal of naivety and all.

In rhythm is contractual force, moving prisms, atoms and wheels, offering new conditioning. We see relatable trust and congruence. Rhythm is suggestive of primary urges and conceivability. It is fluid, grand, dynamic, and purifying cycle. Surrendering oneself, whether in part or whole, we generate an offering to a preexisting system. This increases life and vitality.

Being In Rhythm offers a tangent exposure where identity is formed, and beliefs coalesce. A corresponding digest for greater consciousness is in the intentional net or kaleidoscope made comprehensive in vivid form. Action is moving sequence; a communication that governs understanding.
